Universities to be closed only in nine cities HEC, Islamabad

Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) declared on Wednesday that universities across the country, except for nine cities, would continue to work under the commission’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and guidelines.

The National Command and Operation Centre has announced that educational institutions in nine cities will be suspended for two weeks beginning March 15.

“Following the government’s announcement of Spring holidays in academic institutions in selected cities due to a recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the HEC has clarified that all universities will continue to operate as per the guidelines issued previously, except for universities and higher education institutions in the following cities: Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Sialkot, Peshawar, Gujranwala and Gujrat.

It stated that from March 15 to March 28, all universities in the nine cities will be closed to physical attendance.

Academic activities, on the other hand, will continue to be performed online throughout this period. Furthermore, ongoing and pre-scheduled exams should be carried out according to plan while adhering to all Covid-19 health and safety protocols.
