Rawalpindi: According to a recent news report, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced its decision to revise existing building by-laws in major areas including cantonment in a bid to give commercial status to residential properties and expand building infrastructure in the city.

Residential plots of 5 and 10 marlas will be listed as commercial properties by the civic body. It would ask the departments concerned to amend the current building by-laws to allow this measure. Furthermore, urban regeneration planning will attract investment and employment growth in the building industry.
During a meeting between RDA Chairman Tariq Mahmood Murtaza and Station Commander Rawalpindi Brigadier Ijaz Qamar Qayani, a consensus on urban registry plans was reached. WASA’s MD, Raja Shaukat Mahmood, and other related officials were also present.

The RDA chief announced at the event that urban redevelopment planning would allow for an increase in the number of well-planned residential accommodations as well as large-scale construction opportunities for mixed-use developments in the area.
