Islamabad: According to a recent report, the Federal Tax Ombudsman Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to initiate action against non-compliant withholding agents.

The ombudsman has issued the order under Section 161 of Income Tax Ordinance. He further instructed the taxation agency to register all non-compliant withholding agents on the tax roll and ensure submission of withholding statements in terms of Section 165 of the ordinance.
According to the details revealed, out of a total number of 11,273 withholding agents, 6,406 are not on the tax roll as reflected by the data provided by the FBR.

Indeed, even a large portion of the retention specialists, who are on NTN, are non-filers of retaining charge explanations that they are needed to submit under Section 165 of the law. This makes huge misfortunes to the public exchequer. FBR has been coordinated to make a move and present a consistence report within 60 days.
