Nowshera: According to a recent news report, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched a countrywide olive cultivation drive in the district of Nowshera. Large-scale olive cultivation is to be the best investment for the country in terms of earning foreign exchange, creating employment opportunities and food security.
Because of the favourable climate and topography from north to south, he believes that olive plantations have enormous potential. He went on to say that water-scarce areas like the Suleiman Mountains (near Waziristan), Baluchistan’s plains, and Punjab’s diverse landscape are suitable for low-irrigation olive farming.
The prime minister said that olive oil extracted from the plants can be used to meet local demand as well as exports. He went on to say that Pakistan has more potential than Spain for olive oil production and can explore possibilities through a strategic olive cultivation drive. Highlighting the country’s 12 climatic zones and diversified landscape, he urged people to plant a variety of crops and fruit.
