Karachi: According to a recent news report, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has started a major project to clear out the massive Gujjar Nullah and changed into a model stormwater drain.

The anti-encroachment operation to clear Gujjar Nullah will be executed in a phase-wise manner – with the first phase involving soft encroachment removal and to be executed in a week. In the later stage, KMC will take up to 10 days to thrash over four thousand houses, commercial shops and other structures built over the stormwater drain’s bank.

The corporation executed the cleaning of nullah each year before the monsoon season with the help of provincial/ federal governments, Pakistan Army and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Reportedly, the KMC has already cleared the area between Zero Point in Sector 11-A (North Karachi) and Shafiq Mor. The residents of the area have been made aware of the operation through multiple newspaper publications.
