Karachi: In a piece of recent news, a strategy is being designed to keep Karachi clean permanently and such activities are underway under the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB). This was stated at a meeting held on Thursday. Sindh Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Secretary Syed Najam Ahmad Shah presided over the meeting also attended by SSWMB managing directed Zubair Channa.
Mr. Shah was told that the plan involved door-to-door garbage disposal, the introduction of moving garbage trucks, and a public information program based on expert advice.
The secretary stated that as Karachi’s population grew, so did the amount of household waste and other forms of garbage generated daily, which required immediate attention.
He told the SSWMB MD to come up with a detailed plan to collect garbage from all of the houses in all of the areas regularly. Both field and ground personnel should observe Covid-19 basic operating procedures when performing their duties, he said (SOPs).
The secretary directed that all SSWMB district officers prepare their performance reports daily and ensure that the mission of cleaning the city is carried out.
He said that plans were underway to make all of Karachi’s districts perfect in terms of cleanliness and sanitation. He said that it would eventually be expanded to all of the province’s districts.
