Islamabad: According to a recent news report, the carpeting of major Capital Development Authority (CDA) roads in the capital, especially in the G sector, has been completed, a statement issued by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said. More than 370km of the roads have been carpeted with 90% of the work completed in the thickly populated sectors including G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10, G-11, and G-5.
The road directorate and Machinery Pool Organization (MPO), responsible for carpeting of roads, were part of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) but due to lack of funding and administrative issues, the two departments badly failed to deliver, resulting in the dilapidated condition of streets and roads of Islamabad.
Meanwhile, carpeting of roads in I-9 and I-10 is underway whereas work on 7th, 9th, and Jinnah avenues along with Blue Area and D-12 is complete.
Necessary patchwork has also been started on I.J. Principal Road. It is relevant to note here that CDA has already called tenders for a complete overhauling of I.J. Principal Road through a project worth over Rs. 5 billion. However, the process of shortlisting firms is underway before opening financial bids.
The engineer said minor patchwork is being carried out on this road to provide some sort of temporary relief to motorists. We will work on further widening the road, he added.
Similarly, more than 80% of work has been completed in the last few days in markets of F-10, I-8, I-9, I-10, D-12 along with carpeting of the main road, service road and U-turn of D-12. Repairs are in the final stages at main roads including Expressway, F-10, I-9, I-10, Khayaban-i-Soharwardi and Park Road.
