Karachi: According to a recent news report, the provincial education authorities told the Sindh High Court on Wednesday that 6,866 schools throughout the province had been closed due to a shortage of teachers, but that they would reopen after new teacher training took place within four months.
The education and literacy department was ordered to file a compliance report by a two-judge bench led by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar.

An assistant advocate general submitted a statement on behalf of the secretary of the school education and literacy department when the bench took up a series of petitions primarily seeking enactment of the Sindh Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2013.
It displayed a district-by-district summary of the ‘viable’ closed schools and teaching staff vacancies. It also stated that 7,974 government schools in the province were deemed ‘non-viable due to the proximity of comparable facilities. According to the declaration, the viable closed schools will be reopened by new teacher training, as a framework for the recruitment of Primary School Teachers (PSTs) and Junior, Elementary School Teachers had been informed and written (JESTs).
