Rawalpindi: According to a recent piece of news, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) sealed 11 illegal shops in different areas of the city on Friday.
According to an RDA spokesperson, the civic body is battling illegal building and land mafia in the city. He said Ghazni Market has three shops, City Saddar Road has three shops, and Chakri Road has five shops.

Within RDA’s controlled area in Rawalpindi, he added, RDA had been aggressively conducting operations against unauthorized commercial-cum-residential constructions such as plazas, stores, schools, and other unlawful land use encroachments.
The operation was carried out by RDA workers with the support of the Rawalpindi police. In violation of the Punjab Development of Cities Act, 1976, and the RDA Construction and Zoning Regulations, 2020, the owners of these properties built illegal commercial buildings without No-Objection Certificates.
He said that the Punjab government had ordered the RDA to take firm action against encroachments, unlicensed constructions, and commercial activities without fear or favour.

He said that the property owners had unlawfully carried out construction work in various areas without the authority’s acceptance of a layout plan. People have been warned, in their own best interests, not to invest in unregulated/unauthorised areas or high-rise towers, since these are not recognised or permitted by the authorities.
The RDA urges people to take advice from the civic agency before engaging in such schemes since the civic agency would not be liable for any damages, he said.
